DEAD POOL RULES
- You pick 25 celebrities that you think will die between January 01, 2001 and December 31, 2001.
Every time somebody on your list buys the farm, you get points valued at that person's age.
- EXAMPLE: Frank Sinatra died at age 81, so he would be worth 81 points.
- Five of your 25 selections are "tragedy" picks. These celebrities must be 45 years
of age or younger. Their point value is their age plus 100.
- EXAMPLE: Chris Farley would have been worth 133 points (died at age 33). Do your
homework: if you name someone who's over 45 as one of your "tragedy"
picks, you don't get the 100 bonus points.
- You will be awarded 50 bonus points if you come up with a croaker who isn't on anyone else's
list, so it pays to consider some less obvious choices.
- On the other hand, don't be too obscure. If we can't verify who your pick is, or if that person
has died, you'll get no points. A celebrity, for the purpose of this pool, is someone who is known to the general
public in the fields of entertainment, sports, the arts, politics, law, science, medicine, education, religion,
etc. Merely being old or being sick does not make someone a celebrity. The authority that we will use to determine
the age at death is the Associated Press... whatever they say in the obituary is what we'll use.
- If you choose someone who is already, unfortunately, dead, you forfeit that pick, so please
do your research. Conversely, if one of your lucky 25 buys the farm after we get your entry, but before the contest
kicks off, you'll get 25 consolation points. If you want to check whether the people on your list are truly dead
or just pretending, you can look here:
- Your list must be submitted by January 01, 2001, and the $25.00 entry fee must be paid by Febuary
01, 2001 or you will be disqualified. Once we've received your entry, we'll send back an e-mail instructing you
where to send your entry fee.
